Several people were injured in a crash involving a FedEx truck Thursday afternoon at Loughboro and Rock Roads outside of Bismarck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Steven Wirey, 18, of Bismarck, was driving his 2002 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on Rock Road. Richard Champney, 40, of Salem, was driving his 2008 GMC Savana G3500 FedEx truck westbound on Loughboro Road.

Wirey failed to stop at the stop sign and the front center of his Malibu struck the right side of Champney’s FedEx truck, causing the truck to go off the left side of the road, strike a fence and eject Champney from the truck.

Champney was not wearing his seat belt and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital-St. Louis by Air Evac. Wirey received minor injuries and was taken to Parkland Health Center by private conveyance.

Wirey’s passengers, Emma Simonton, 17, of Bismarck, was moderately injured and taken to Parkland Health Center by St. Francois County Ambulance and Michael Bass Jr., 16, also of Bismarck, was taken to Parkland Health Center by private conveyance with minor injuries. None of the teens were wearing their seat belts.
