Circle K customers help fuel funding for local elementary school

A group of third-grade students at Fort Kent Elementary School helped accept a check for $1,000 made out to the school from the local Circle K convenience store and gas station on Monday, Feb. 26.

FORT KENT, Maine — A group of third-grade students at Fort Kent Elementary School helped accept a check for $1,000 made out to the school from the local Circle K convenience store and gas station on Monday, Feb. 26.

Circle K raised the money for FKES during a “Fueling Our Schools” fundraising campaign.

For every gallon of gas customers purchase at a designated pump at the Fort Kent Circle K on Main Street during the campaign, the business donates one cent to FKES, up to $2,000 annually.

The young students who helped accept the check from Fort Kent Circle K manager Glen Gagnon on Monday said they were pleased with the donation.

“Because we can get a lot of more stuff for this school,” said third-grader Ryan Fournier

“Like pencils and erasers and school books,” added Fournier’s classmate, Caleb Pelletier.

Student Ellie Walther had a more specific goal in mind as to how the school could spend the money.

“It could help fix the broken floors in the classrooms,” she said.

Last year Circle K donated two checks to FKES in the amount of $1,000 each, in the spring and fall.

The Fueling Our Schools fundraiser is ongoing.

Customers who fuel up at pump number 7 at the Fort Kent Circle K can help raise another $1,000 for FKES which the business hopes to donate this coming fall. Pump number 7 contains a sign which indicates that one penny for every gallon of gas sold at that pump will benefit the elementary school.

“We’re part of the community and we want to make sure to give back to the community that we serve,” Gagnon said.
